Former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin on life support, Sourav Ganguly offers a helping hand

Former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin is admitted in a Vadodara hospital and on life support after he met with an accident on 28 December. After the accident caused injuries to his lungs and liver, he is on a ventilator.

The cricket fraternity including former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly have come together to support and assured all help possible to the family
after Martin’s family appealed to the BCCI for help.

BCCI has sanctioned INR 5 lakhs while the Baroda Cricket Association – for whom Martin won the Ranji trophy – also came forward and sanctioned Rs 3 lakhs.

Martin who made his India debut under Ganguly in September 1999 has played ten ODIs for India. When asked about the Martin, Ganguly said, “Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone”.

As per a report, Patel also received assurance from Indian head coach Ravi Shastri. Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and former Indian cricketer Munaf Patel have also come forward to help Martin’s family.

Martin played five games under Ganguly’s captaincy and another five under Sachin Tendulkar. He played 138 First-class matches scoring 9192 runs. He also played for the Railways and Baroda – leading them to their first Ranji title in 2000-2001.
